HATCH at Smallford Farm Shop

Had a fantastic lunch with friends today at Hatch Smallford. Food was amazing, great choices on the menu. The service was brilliant. Staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back soon. Fabulous farm shop to have a mooch and shop in too.

I visited this restaurant on Mother's Day with my son,and it was a truly lovely experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming,perfect for a special occasion. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and full of flavour. Everything we ordered was fresh and perfectly prepared. A special thank you to our waiter,Marcin, who made our visit even more enjoyable. He was attentive ,polite,and made us feel very comfortable from the moment we arrived. His friendly attitude and professional service added a personal touch to our meal. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day, and I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

These guys absolutely deserve their 5 stars. The service at the cafe was exceptional. The staff were extremely attentive and knowledgeable about our (quite complicated) order. Food was also delicious. Worth going out of your way for.

I had a fantastic experience at this cafe! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried exceeded expectations, from the rich coffee to the perfectly baked pastries and hearty mains. What made it even better was the service. The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and service shine equally, but this cafe nails it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cozy spot with great food and warm hospitality. Can’t wait to go back!

This is a fantastic cafe and certainly worth visiting. Service is lovely, food excellent (my breakfast bap was first class) and good value. Similar to the other Hatch locations, this is top notch and a great place to eat/drink. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved our meal at HATCH in Smallford! Tucked inside the Ford Farm Shop, this place is a real gem. Everything we ordered was spot-on — the Fish Finger Bun was generously stacked with golden, crispy fish and a punchy tartare-style sauce, all inside a perfectly toasted bun. The Loaded Hash Browns were next-level: crunchy, cheesy, and seriously addictive. The Chicken Caesar Salad was a hearty portion with juicy, crisp-coated chicken and loads of flavour. Even the Dirty Chai was great — smooth, well-spiced, and not overly sweet. Service was friendly and the whole space had a welcoming, relaxed vibe. You can tell the team here really cares about quality — both in the food and the experience. Definitely worth the visit if you’re anywhere near St Albans!
